Cronulla have been dealt a blow in Thursday's season-opener with Filomina Hanisi suffering a knee injury early in the first half.
The interchange forward had made an impact for her side when injected into the contest, however she was helped from the field in significant discomfort. There are early fears she may have injured her ACL and will go for scans in the coming days.
"She's in a bit of pain," Sharks coach Tony Herman said post-game. "I don't think it's great. They haven't been able to have a good look at it but we'll get some scans done and see where she's at."
The Eels had an injury concern of their own with hooker Taneka Todhunter suffering a shoulder injury.
The dummy half will also go for scans however there was hope she would be able to return during the match if needed.
Golden Boot winner Tarryn Aiken has been ruled out of the Roosters' Round 1 clash with the Warriors with a shoulder injury.
The playmaker is recovering from an AC joint injury sustained while playing for Queensland in last month's Origin III win and club medical officials have opted for a precautionary approach with the reigning Karryn Murphy Medallist.
The Roosters have received a major boost with Corban Baxter named to play her first game in more than 12 months. The veteran tore her ACL in a pre-season trial last year and will line up at five-eighth on Sunday afternoon.

Johnston-Green has also been recovering from a knee injury suffered in August last year and has targeted a return early in the season.

Captain Mahalia Murphy is targeting a return in Round 3 from a hamstring injury while Boss Kapua should be back in Round 4 after fracturing her fibula during the pre-season.
The Titans have been dealt a blow on the eve of the season, with their outside backs hit by injury ahead of Round 1.
Niall Williams-Guthrie will sit out the clash with the Cowboys as the club takes a cautious approach to her return from a Lisfranc injury, while Sarina Masaga continues her comeback from a concussion.
Youngsters Estanoa Faitala-Mariner (knee) and Phoenix-Raine Hippi (ankle) have been ruled out and forwards Lily Kolc (shin soreness) and Laikha Clarke (foot fracture) will miss this week's game but are expected to be available for selection in the next fortnight.
The Raiders are without Cook Islands international Kerehitina Matua, who is recovering from an ankle injury sustained in the pre-season trial against Newcastle, while Claudia Finau (ACL) is out for the season.
Brisbane have received a boost with Tamika Upton and Destiny Brill named to return from injuries suffered during the State of Origin series, however, centre Shenae Ciesiolka remains sidelined with a knee injury and will miss Saturday's game against the Wests Tigers.
Meanwhile, the Titans have announced that forward Rilee Jorgensen has been medically ruled out of the 2025 season after back surgery in November.
The 19-year-old is expected to be fit and available for the 2026 NRLW season after a full year of rehab and recovery.
